I have been getting painting job after painting job after painting job. I can’t complain because this is what I wanted. I’m making far more cash than I ever did at my restaurant. Go figure. But, what I didn’t want, however, was to be injured on the job. It appears that on this last job – which consisted of priming and painting a gazillion miles of oak trim – I somehow managed to contort and twist in such a manner that I pulled the muscles in my lower back. I didn’t notice it right away, but as soon as I was finished with the job and could relax, that’s when the pain set in. Not only do I have some nasty bruises on my knees from crawling around on them all week (wish I could blame it on my night job – you know…the one where I’m a porn star?) but now I have to contend with a bad back. Shit, just add me to the list of walking wounded.
My next job starts Tuesday so I need to doctor myself this weekend and make sure I’m on the mend. So….there will be no cooking, no cleaning, no doing laundry, no washing dishes, no gardening, no walking the dogs, no nothing this weekend. I’m going to lay flat on my back, computer on my lap, books and magazines and tv remote at my side (GASP…I haven’t watched tv in about a month). And it looks like I will have to forego the diet this weekend as we will be ordering out. Mmmm…pizza. I can’t wait. It’s all good, though. I’ve dropped 10 lbs. thus far, yipee-tie-yie-yay! Now, if I could only find someone to go and grab me a triple shot latte I’d be all set. Can’t one of you fantastic souls out there in blogland figure out some way to get a fine coffee drink to my door? Thanks, I’d appreciate it very much-ly!
Oh…and I mustn’t forget – Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mothas out there!
I hope you’re feeling better soon. You gotta take care of that back, lady. It’s gotta last you a lifetime. 😉 Try your best to enjoy your time off.
Thanks, Mr. P. I’m trying to take care of it…sure does suck getting old!
Oh Crap! Sorry you are hurt 😦 I come from a live stock of bad backs; so I know your pain. Mine hasn’t gone out in a while (knock on wood baby) but when it does, you are rendered helpless.
If you get muscle relaxers and pain killers, please remember that while you’ll feel much better, you are still injured and take extra precaution to bend at the knees and go very easy on the back until you are healed…. Oh, the motherly advice… sorry!
I feel so bad, ‘cuz I understand, been there, done that! Enjoy your pizza 😉 Happy Mother’s Day to you too…
Thanks, Anne. This has happened before but it was actually worse the last time – couldn’t even get up or down. I’m able to move around but the pain doesn’t seem to be waning…which worries me.
I did enjoy the pizza! Broccoli cheese white pizza to be exact! Yum! And the girl child brought me breakfast in bed this morning…so thoughtful. Hope you have a great M-day!
Ouch is right. I have had back injuries since I was a child. I know there are a few stretches you can do, depending upon where it hurts, if you know child’s pose in yoga that does a world of good for lower sacral area back pain. Also, sometimes alternating heat and ice 20 mins of each will help. Hot, Hot shower and of course rest.
If I could figure out how to get coffee delivered It would go to my house then to your house. I have also often wished that someone would do dessert delivery, my it’s a new idea for a business!
Good for you on the 10lbs down and your success in the business venture! You are quite the entreprenuer (I can’t spell)!
I hope you feel much, much better by Monday or sooner. And Happy Mother’s Day to You!
Thanks, DDTD. I’ve been doing the ice/heat treatment for the last 2 days without much relief. And my medicine cabinet is fresh out of muscle relaxers. Will probably have to hit the doc up tomorrow if it’s not any better. As for the stretching…I’ve been trying to roll on my Pilates ball to stretch out but it’s pretty painful so I’m going to wait on that and try again in a few days.
I think the coffee/dessert delivery idea is superb! Why didn’t I think of that?
Hope you have a great Mother’s Day!
Take a couple of tall mugs of relaxer and call me in the morning.
Unfortunately, my medicine cabinet is fresh out of relaxers. So, may have to go with the tall mug of Vicodin followed by a booze chaser. May be out for a few days – don’t wait for my call!
awww…wish I could help. One of the few things I know I’m good at is massage. 🙂 See your doctor and get a script for for some muscle relaxers. When I slipped discs in my neck and the muscles in my neck and upper back twisted and locked up, they prescribed me muscles relaxers, which allowed me to relax a little..not to mention they sent me to a happy place where even watching Larry King Live became a laugh riot….
Thanks, G. It hurts so bad today I just want to cry. Boo hoo. Going to have to hit the doc up tomorrow for some meds. I definitely want to go to that happy place right about now!
Hey 2LD,
Thanks so much for stopping by…
I do so enjoy your blog. You always make me laugh…I desperately need to laugh as much as possible these days.
Still giggling over the zucchini, by the way.
Smiles & hugs!
-BizyLizy
Hey BizyLizy,
You are so very welcome, it was my pleasure. Honestly, you had me in tears. I’ll be back to read more.
I’m so glad you enjoy my blog. I, too, need to laugh as much as possible. Luckily, my life provides many laughable instances to share with you all!
Oooh I love adding a third shot of espresso to my latte on those tough monday mornings 😉 …hope you feel better soon, and woohoo on the 10 pounds, you’re kickin ass!! 🙂
Hey Romi,
Oooo…I am soooo missing my triple shot lattes. Grrrr.
I am feeling better, thank you. I’m pretty happy about the 10 lbs…gonna keep going!
Aww .. I swear I didnt send the badbackvibes to you .. Take it easy, put them feet up and relax. Hope you get to feeling better real sooon!!!
Ohhh no…you didn’t send the badbackmojo to me! I’m feeling better today, after puttin’ my feet up all weekend. Thanks for your thoughts, Red!
Oh, back injuries are the worst. You should find a guy to give you a rubdown. I’m not saying that will fix your back but it may distract you from the pain. 😉
Yes…back injuries are quite literally a pain in the ass!
Hmmm…a rubdown? That’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks Billy…ummm…but I can’t think of anyone I could snag to give me one. Any suggestions? 😉
Back pain is the worst thing ever, outside of poking yourself in the eye with a needle. Hope you feel better.
Maybe if I poke myself in the eye with a needle the back won’t hurt as bad. Hmmm? Worth a try. Thanks B5!
Dude, starbucks totally delivers. I’ve seen it. I’ve seen their little crooked-mailbox-shaped carrying/maybe pouring devices. You may have to order a ginormous amount and convince them its for a corporate event, but they deliver. You’re welcome.
P.S. Set myself up on the couch on Saturday in similar fashion. Le boyfriend was online, and my ass was in a lazy mood. Pizza to the right of me, water to the left, smokes (my version anyways), remote, laptop, munchies, blanket, all set for 10 hours of NOT MOVING. Was I injured? No. Lazy? Hells yeah.
Ok, I know you are totally going to want to punch me in the face when I say this…but…I hate (alright, I’ll use a less harsh word – strongly dislike – how’s that) Starfucks. I’ve tried, and tried to like their lattes…but…nope, they taste like dirt. I would rather have a plain old cup o’ Timmy Ho’s coffee before I’d spend my $$ at Starfucks on their fancy dirt-tasting coffee drinks.
I actually enjoyed the laziness this weekend. I don’t get to be lazy all that often. The girl child even brought me breakfast in bed for Ma’s Day. I’m all for the laziness…and the pizza…and the beer…and the red wine…and more beer (yeah, I mixed the booze this weekend. WTF? I was feeling like crap so I had to cheer myself up somehow…right?) Cheers to laziness!
Might be time to invest in kneepads and one of those support belts (the upside being they might work well for your night job as well) also, get a lumbar pillow. The best preventitive is to do ab exercises, they strengthen your lower back. Sounds like you’ve got full justification for a full body massage too – make sure he’s handsome and Swedish. 😉
WC
Hey WC,
I was thinking about the knee pads but opted for one of those little garden cushion thingies (that obviously won’t work for the night job…but I’ll figure out something else for that 😉 ).
It really is all my fault. I was being good about doing my 100 crunches on the Pilates ball every night and then I just plain got lazy…and what happened? BAM…back goes out. So, once I find a hot hunk to rub me down it will be back to the crunches.
Forget the meds. Go to a good bone cracker. I am enjoying your blog. My father was a house painter for 40 years. It is an honorable choice.
RJ
Hey RJ,
Thanks for stopping by. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
Eek. A bone cracker? That sounds harsh! I’ve never been to a chiropractor and am afraid to go. I’ve heard stories of folks ending up worse off than before they went to one.
I’m not doing exterior painting since I don’t have a crew to help me…afraid it would be a heck of a job for lil’ ol’ me…plus I’m not terribly fond of heights. I’m sticking to the interior work. I’m surprised at how many people don’t want to do their own painting.
*AHEM*
Whats this about not knowing anyone for a good rub down??
I believe I volunteered for those services
Welllllllllllllll….it’s NOT that I don’t know anyone…just that they are TOO far away! Don’tchaknow? But I’d be more than happy to welcome your hands-o-wonder if you feel like driving a gazillion miles. 😉
I can’t get a coffee drink to your door, but I know you can order Domino’s from their website.
Sorry to hear about your back — back pain is some of the worst — like your every move shoots the pain everywhere. As for chiropractors, I’ve never had any use for them. Never did any good for me. That said, I know some people swear by them. Maybe it depends on who it is. One warning about laying around and resting: sometimes that stiffens up the muscles and makes things worse (something about acid buildup from the torn muscle fibers). Load up on some Rx’s which will relax the muscles, ease the pain, and make you mobile again, rest for a couple of days, then start with some stretching. Keep the muscles flexible.
Back to the coffee thing for a moment, have you tried Nespresso? I’m a huge fan.
Thanks MM. I actually got off my back and went to work on Monday. It feels better now that I’ve been up, moving around and stretching it out. I’ve also found that those Tiger Balm hot patches that you can stick to you work well.
Mmmm…Nespresso? Never heard of it. Must look into that. Thanks!
Cheers indeed! I don’t actually love Starbucks (Starschmucks is another good one), but I like my corporate imagery, and until Timmy Ho’s delivers…wow, that would be a fantastic idea. And don’t worry about mixing the booze. I mix it with key lime pie and all is still well.
I think you should run with the Timmy Ho’s delivery idea…stat! (No, I’m not a doctor, I just play one on tv; well, no, wait…I don’t. I just figured since I did my time watching ER for all those years that I had a right to say “stat”).
Oh barf. I’m having a hard time thinking about eating key lime pie with ANY sort of alcohol. I loves me some key lime pie. Ok, maybe I could stomach it with some tequila.
